Rehearsal plan for 9/24

Our second rehearsal of the cycle will start with the Gulino fanfare (brass and percussion only). If you are not involved in that piece, plan on arriving by 7:45 pm.

The remainder of the rehearsal plan is posted on the Rehearsal This Week page.

See you Monday!

First rehearsal is next Monday!

First — Thank you to Marge & Bill Hone for hosting our Kick-Off Party last Tuesday. We had about 25 members and spouses attend, and it was a great evening. It’s safe to say that everyone attending found the 2011-2012 recordings to be top quality. Be sure to speak to Marge on Monday if you did not already order your copy of last year’s concert compilation.

I can’t wait for our first rehearsal next Monday! I have a spent a great deal of time putting together an interesting and challenging program for our 25th anniversary year, with world-class guest conductors and thrilling soloists. It’s going to be an outstanding season — and I’m so glad you’re going to be part of it!

I had almost no feedback or reactions to the announcement about the change of dress rehearsal date from October 31 to Saturday, November 3, 1:00-4:00 pm. This means either: a) Very few conflicts or adverse effects, or b) Very few people read the announcement. I’m hoping that it was the former, not the latter!

Please click here to see the rehearsal order for Monday. I’ll see you then.

Dress rehearsal change

Fall Concert Dress Rehearsal Date Change

Unfortunately, we must announce a change in the dress rehearsal date for the Fall Concert. TMH has accepted a booking for our original date of Wednesday, October 31, and informed us as such. Thursday, November 1 is already booked at TMH. Tuesday, October 30 gives us no positive dress rehearsal reinforcement, as it’s one day after our regular Monday rehearsal, and five days away from the concert. And it’s not possible to simply use the Monday night rehearsal as the dress, as we already have only 7 rehearsals in this cycle.

Considering all our options, the Board has backed my decision to move the Fall Concert dress rehearsal to the only slot possible with TMH — Saturday, November 3, 1:00-4:00 pm. We recognize this is not ideal, but I am asking everyone to do everything possible to help us make this work with minimal collateral damage. Please take a hard look at that afternoon, and “clear the decks” if at all possible. It’s not ideal for me either, but I will make it work so we can make this happen together. We will not ask anyone to refrain from playing the concert for missing this dress rehearsal, but for the benefit of our best performance possible, I am asking you to please do what you can to help us make this work. This is the best we can do in the wake of a booking that was out of our hands.

A message from Rachel

I hope this note finds you all in good health and good spirits. The board has been very busy this summer…I’d like to share some of it with you.

President(s)

In June, Eric Joseph, our President for the last 4 years, resigned his leadership position on the board. A huge promotion at IBM put many new demands on his time. We cannot thank Eric enough for his commitment and enthusiasm as President. In order to bridge the gap, I assumed the role of Interim President for the summer. We focused our efforts on detailed committee work (including community outreach, 25th anniversary and public relations). I am now thrilled to announce than Jim Savage, of Tuba fame, has graciously agreed to accept the board nomination as President. Please join me in congratulating him… He has two goals; Keep Curt happy and raise money for the group.

Underwriting Opportunities

We have some exciting things happening this year for our 25th Anniversary – some of which require extra funds outside of our normal dues and operating budget. So we are offering the chance for those who are interested and able, to donate money for specific projects that may be of interest.

  1. Mallory Thompson will be conducting at our 25th Anniversary Gala Concert. We have an anonymous donor to match dollar for dollar all money raised for this project.
  2. Concert set up/breakdown – many people expressed interest in ‘paying’ rather than having to schlep chairs, stands, etc. on concert days.
  3. 25th Anniversary party – we are planning to have a reception after the May concert (on the TMH stage following the performance).

Kick-Off Party!
