Clinic with Matthew Maslanka

I received so many positive comments about Matthew’s visit last week. The word “transformative” was used over and over again. The experience was so insightful and also very humbling for me, and I feel really good about where we are in this process right now.

This is it!

This is a big week with our regular Monday rehearsal, Wednesday dress, and Saturday’s performance and reception. Please make good choices to stay healthy and hydrated, protect your chops and fingers, and maintain your energy flow in order to prepare for the work that lies before us.

The rehearsal plan is posted. We have to play through the Maslanka without stops on both Monday and Wednesday to prepare for the performance.

Reception – please RSVP!

The Board is sponsoring a post-concert reception for members and their guests, to be held at the Christ Episcopal Church Hall (rear building), 43 South Broadway, Tarrytown. Please RSVP if you intend to attend so we can plan — click here.

Tickets

The coupon codes for both May 9 and July 4 are reposted in the Slack channel. I’m copying the ticket sites here (with the codes redacted). I’ll repeat the codes on Monday night at rehearsal, or check the Slack channel for Members.

Bear Mountain Brass Concert

The Bear Mountain Brass concert announced last week for tomorrow has been cancelled and will be rescheduled. Thanks for your support!

Rehearsal with Matthew Maslanka at WPHS

This Monday, we’re very excited to welcome Matthew Maslanka to our rehearsal at White Plains. We are also welcoming Doug Kostner, organ, and Liann Cline, harp. This will be our final working rehearsal on Symphony No.4, so this is a exceptionally important evening in our journey to the performance on May 9. We are rehearsing on stage again at White Plains HS. Join me in thanking our host, Kathy Davis, for helping to make this possible.

Please keep these broad ideas in mind as we prepare for tomorrow night:

  • Rest. Get good sleep. Be sure you are physically ready for the demands of this rehearsal.
  • Continue to review the technical sections which are critical for you as an individual.
  • In our remaining rehearsals, remember to listen for the “big picture,” and remember your role within that picture. Your role changes constantly, so be prepared to listen, adjust, repeat.

All of this work is leading to three run-throughs of the symphony. Keep this in mind as you prepare.

  1. Monday, May 4, as part of our final rehearsal
  2. Wednesday, May 6, at the dress rehearsal
  3. Saturday, May 9, at the performance

The rehearsal plan is posted. See you Monday evening at White Plains.

Solo vocalist joins us Monday at UUFNW

Monday’s rehearsal at UUFNW

MaryKay Messenger will be joining us on Monday night for our working rehearsal on the three vocal numbers. The rest of the rehearsal will be devoted to the second half of the symphony, Parts IV, V, Transition, and VI.

CRUCIAL REHEARSAL: April 27 at White Plains HS – Matthew Maslanka joins us to clinic our rehearsal

This rehearsal will be devoted entirely to the symphony. Matthew’s insights will be critical. The harp and organ join us for the only working rehearsal with them. Please, please, please do not miss this rehearsal!

Monday 4/13 at UUFNW

I hope many of you were able to watch the Ithaca College Wind Ensemble concert tonight. They did a great job with the symphony!

This Monday, we’re rehearing at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Mount Kisco. I’ll be reviewing all three vocal numbers, plus Parts 1, 2, & 3 of the symphony. See the detailed rehearsal agenda here, with measures for each section noted..

Psych up for the next four rehearsals. We have to maintain our forward motion and pacing!
