Rehearsal plan corrected

Aside

I just realized that I copied my rehearsal plan incorrectly. Markowski is next week. Rehearsal for tomorrow night (January 25) is:

7:30 – Holst II-III
8:00 – Mackey
8:45 – Stretch/Announcements
8:55 – Daughtrey
9:25 – Latham I-II-III-IV

The rehearsal page has been corrected. Apologies!

Rehearsal at White Plains HS confirmed

I hope you’re safe and warm today amidst the falling snow. Maybe I should change the concert finale to a more appropriate composition?

We are definitely rehearsing in White Plains on Monday. See below, or go to Rehearsal this Week for the rehearsal plan and directions to White Plains High School. We are rehearsing in the Orchestra Room, because they closed the auditorium to replace the stage curtains this week.

I added a tab named “Winter Rehearsals” to the 2015-2016 Repertoire spreadsheet, to show my rehearsal plans for the remaining rehearsals of the cycle. Check it out — you may find it useful. February 28 is not that far away! This sheet is always shared through the Resources page.

Be careful in the storm. We can’t afford to lose anyone to an unfortunate accident! See you Monday in White Plains.

Directions to White Plains High School, 550 North Street, White Plains:
See map below. Use 550 North Street as GPS address. Cross street is Bryant Avenue, which has an exit directly off I-287. Although the address is North Street, it is easier to use the parking lot from the Bryant Avenue entrance because of one-way lanes on campus.
Enter off Bryant, then take the first right into the large parking lot. You’ll see the auditorium at the southeast corner of the parking lot. Walk toward the auditorium, and look for signs to guide you inside to the Orchestra Room. See below also for the excellent map Rachel’s son drew for us.

Practice Tips from Wynton Marsalis

Facebook occasionally yields some good resources. This morning I found this post linking to the blog, Talking Trumpet, with Wynton Marsalis’s “12 Rules of Practice.” The post also advertises two books which are FREE for Amazon Kindle through Monday, January 18 (an additional book was available only through January 15). The list is practical and sensible, and worth sharing as well with your students. And who can say no to free books?

Monday’s rehearsal is the last at TMH until February 8. We are now confirmed at White Plains High School for January 25 and February 1. Bill Tonissen and the other music WPHS faculty have been very helpful and welcoming. I’ll send directions next week. There’s plenty of parking, and the school is right off of I-287 in White Plains at Bryant Avenue.

On Monday, we’ll dig a little more into the second “Valley” section of the Mackey (at letter “O” to the end), and continue work on the Tull (please be prepared with those WW and brass fanfares). We’ll add the complete percussion section for the Williams Sinfonians (thanks again, Liz Day, for helping us find the bass drum part!), and do some detailed work on all three movements of the Holst.

Looking ahead, if you’re looking for a summer conducting workshop, Emily Threinen will be hosting her Wind Conducting and Teaching Workshop again at Temple University, July 11-15, and she’s invited me back again as a clinician. Gene Corporan is the guest clinician this year, which will make for an amazing experience for all of us. Click here for more information & registration details. Mislav attended last year and can speak about the experience, from a participant’s perspective.

Enjoy your weekend, see you Monday!
