A message from Rachel

I hope this note finds you all in good health and good spirits. The board has been very busy this summer…I’d like to share some of it with you.

President(s)

In June, Eric Joseph, our President for the last 4 years, resigned his leadership position on the board. A huge promotion at IBM put many new demands on his time. We cannot thank Eric enough for his commitment and enthusiasm as President. In order to bridge the gap, I assumed the role of Interim President for the summer. We focused our efforts on detailed committee work (including community outreach, 25th anniversary and public relations). I am now thrilled to announce than Jim Savage, of Tuba fame, has graciously agreed to accept the board nomination as President. Please join me in congratulating him… He has two goals; Keep Curt happy and raise money for the group.

Underwriting Opportunities

We have some exciting things happening this year for our 25th Anniversary – some of which require extra funds outside of our normal dues and operating budget. So we are offering the chance for those who are interested and able, to donate money for specific projects that may be of interest.

  1. Mallory Thompson will be conducting at our 25th Anniversary Gala Concert. We have an anonymous donor to match dollar for dollar all money raised for this project.
  2. Concert set up/breakdown – many people expressed interest in ‘paying’ rather than having to schlep chairs, stands, etc. on concert days.
  3. 25th Anniversary party – we are planning to have a reception after the May concert (on the TMH stage following the performance).

If you have a special beverage, please bring it. Otherwise, Marge has volunteered to supply everything. Please see the link below to reply so we know you’re coming!

Reposting: Wanninger family

It’s come to my attention that many members have not read this entire message about the passing of Bob Wanninger. Please click here to read the entire posting. I will address these messages and how to make sure you stay up to date with all our news in a later email and posting. In the meantime, please follow this link to read this entire message if you have not already done so.

It is with deep sadness that I must report the sudden death of Bob Wanninger, husband of WSW flutist Wendy Wanninger. Bob died on Friday evening, apparently of a sudden heart attack. Bob was an extremely devoted patron of WSW. I believe I have seen Bob at every concert since I came on the scene in 2008, and he always brought along family and friends to introduce newcomers to our music. Recently, Bob volunteered to serve on an Outreach committee to help the Board find ways of connecting better with our community throughout Westchester County. He will be missed very much.

Wendy and her family have kindly and graciously requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to our ensemble. They believe that this would genuinely have made Bob happy. Donations may be mailed to:

Westchester Symphonic Winds
333 Mamaroneck Avenue, Box 485
White Plains, NY 10605

Visiting hours and memorial service will be at the Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster. http://beecherfuneralhome.com/.  Visiting hours are 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 19. The memorial service is 10-12 noon on Friday, July 20.  I’m told there will be opportunity for anyone to speak who wishes to do so. Lunch will follow at Las Mananitas Restaurant; 1520 Route 22, Brewster.

If you would like to call Wendy, or send her a personal message of sympathy, please contact me and I’ll be happy to share her phone and address.
