Last rehearsal in October

I was so very happy with the progress during the past two rehearsals. The program is coming together, and I hope you’re feeling the excitement for November 11. Here’s the flyer for the concert. Please share liberally in print and online. And don’t forget to post the bookmarks Chris Larsen brought for us!

Please give ad submissions to Tom on Monday night, including the ad form, ad copy (PDF or JPG is best), and payment. You can submit the ad copy on a CD or thumbdrive (be sure to label with your name for return), or email it as an attachment to Tom or me.

We are holding our Les Miz auditions for the vocal soloists tomorrow afternoon. A total of eleven vocalists have registered, and we’re eager to hear them! I’m grateful to Barton Green, Barbara Ciannella, Gina Serafin, and Emily Harrison for assisting with the auditions, and to the volunteers who are helping us at the door, Nate Brewster, Marianne Lepre-Nolan, Erin Dawson, and especially to David Church for organizing the auditionees.

Northwinds Concert, November 18

Our WSW friend, Bob Bennett (currently on leave) is conducting two works on the Northwinds Symphonic Band concert on Sunday, November 18. See flyer for details. Free admission!

Batten down the hatches during the nor’easter, stay dry, and we’ll see you Monday night!

Countdown: 3 Mondays left

Yep. Only three Monday rehearsal left. This Monday’s rehearsal plan is posted.

The ad form is posted here, as well as on the Resources Page and the front page. Please give to Tom Sweezey again, he’s helping me collect everything. He’ll be looking for:

  • Ad Form (yes, this is important, because it help me track and makes sure I don’t leave any out)
  • Payment (checks payable to WSW)
  • Whether it’s a recurring ad from last year (for which I’ll have copy) or a new ad
  • New ad copy – PDF’s are best, JPG’s can work too. If at all possible, submit hi-res files for clarity when printing. You can submit on a CD, a thumbdrive (make sure it’s labeled so I can return it), or email it as an attachment to to me directly or to westsymwinds@gmail.com. I can typeset copy for you if needed.

Please remember that ads, in addition to ticket sales and donations, are our only income! Please consider section ads; they are not only fun, but promote a positive image of the group. Thanks.

Also, please check your personal calendars for moving the Caramoor dress rehearsal from Monday, July 1 to Wednesday, July 3. I’ll take a hand count for exceptions at rehearsal.

Thanks — see you Monday!

Back to work

This Monday the Board is meeting upstairs at 6:15 pm. We may have to use the dressing room above stage left if the studio above the lobby is booked; we’ll try to advise before the meeting begins.

I’m going to concentrate on the three big pieces on Monday night: Danyew, Cichy, and Schelle. I wrote to Michael Schelle with some critical questions about his piece a week ago, and am hoping to hear back from him by Monday.

David Marchiony shared this concert info: The Stamford Symphony (including Don Batchelder, principal trumpet, who soloed with us last year) will be performing this weekend – they’re a remarkably excellent orchestra, and tickets can be had for as little as $25.  They’re doing Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Gershwin’s An American In Paris, Joan Tower’s Tambor and Copland’s Clarinet Concerto on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. Click here for tickets and more information. It looks like an amazing program!

Enjoy the weekend — see you Monday.

No rehearsal tonight!

Enjoy the evening off! As of next week, we’ll have only 4 Monday evening rehearsals left, plus the Wednesday, November 7 rehearsal with Robert Ambrose, and our dress on Saturday, November 10.

Please continue to help us promote our Les Miz soloist competition by sharing the Press Release and FAQ’s. Please go to our Facebook page, and share the posting with friends, or just email them the links directly. We know there are more aspiring vocalists out there, eager to sing with us!
