Spring read-through at NRHS

The sectionals were very successful last week. I extend my sincerest gratitude to Jessica Stein-Natale for assisting with those sectionals.

This Monday we are reading through the entire program for May 9 at New Rochelle HS. See the rehearsal plan here. (Remember to use 11 Braemer Avenue, New Rochelle for GPS to the NRHS Band Room; otherwise you’ll end up at the far other end of campus.) When we get to the Maslanka, I’ll be dividing up the symphony according to the form, so don’t be concerned that you’ll be asked to play the entire work straight down nonstop.

The work we do on Monday will truly set up our potential success on May 9. I’m looking forward to seeing you on Monday night!

Sectionals on Monday

Monday at IPC (WW & Brass) and UUFNW (Percussion)

Thank you to so many of you who joined the Zoom last week. I hope the discussion about the form of the Sousa march and Maslanka symphony will help your understanding and assist in your practice preparation. I will post a summary, so those who could not attend can write the form details into their parts. Also, be sure to see the notes about Errata, below.

We will maintain the originally posted schedule with sectionals this Monday. Please see the rehearsal plan here. Woodwinds and brass are meeting at Irvington Presbyterian Church; percussion is meeting at UUFNW. Be sure to bring a music stand to IPC! The entire evening will be devoted to sections of the Maslanka, including the “Babies” solos for the clarinets in the woodwind sectional. My idea here is to help launch these difficult sections, so the program read-through on Monday, March 9 can proceed from the strongest position possible. We’ve never approached it in this way, but I think it will be the best way to do it.

I’m grateful to Jessica for taking on half the sectionals, and to Eric for leading the charge with the percussion. On Monday, March 9, we will read the entire program in rehearsal at New Rochelle HS.

Errata

If you haven’t already, please scan the Errata that are posted in the Maslanka parts folder, (or click here to go directly to the Errata PDF) and transfer them to your parts so you are ready for the first rehearsal. Clarinets: please see these specific errata for you (thank you, Chris Peña, for finding these!)

See you Monday — I’m really looking forward to digging into this music!

All-member Zoom in place of in-person rehearsal on Feb 23

Rehearsal this week replaced by all-member Zoom

OK, we’re pulling the ripcord. We are cancelling the in-person rehearsal on Monday night. Instead we will hold a Zoom for everyone from 7:30-8:30 pm. Please have your music handy as I will be giving notes. See links/details below.
We recognize that some folks will not be able to join because of home emergencies of their own, but if you can join the Zoom, please do.
Details for the March 2 rehearsal will be discussed, and then posted.

Curt Ebersole is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

I love Blizzards!

I don’t know about you, but I love Blizzards! So I’m not sure I understand all the fuss this weekend.

The board and I will make a decision about this next rehearsal on February 23 sometime tomorrow. Please stay tuned.

IMPORTANT: If we don’t rehearse, please save 7:30-8:30 pm on Monday for a full ensemble Zoom. Details to follow.
