NJSO comes to WSW

A new season, a new look for our poster!

Jeff Grogan, our guest conductor for the Fall Concert, will be rehearsing the Hearshen this coming Monday night. This will be the first of two rehearsals (plus the dress rehearsal) he’ll be attending. You may remember that Jeff is one of the assistant conductors of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and it is a special privilege to have him working with us.

Jeff will be arriving fresh from a weekend at University of Michigan, where he served as Assistant Director of Bands. They are presenting him with a distinguished alumni award at the football game tomorrow. Congratulations, Jeff!

I’ve taken direction from the Board to re-design our concert posters. You see the result above. Click on the poster above to download your own copy to distribute electronically or print and post. Remind friends and family that they can purchase season tickets and save $15/ticket at www.seatyourself.biz/westchestersymphonicwinds – just tell them to click on November 4 and they can purchase their season tickets from that date.

I’m still working on rehearsal notes from last week. It’s especially important for the Hearshen notes. I will post those notes tomorrow so you can read them before Monday’s rehearsal.

Have a great weekend and don’t forget to practice!

Let’s try this again!

Rehearsal will be held this Monday, October 8, 7:30-9:45 pm at TMH. Please check the Rehearsal This Week page for the updated rehearsal order.

For quite some time, I’ve been trying to write notes after rehearsal, and put them together into something to share with you. I managed to do this after our last rehearsal. To be effective, it’s important that every member take these steps to actualize the notes’ potential:

  • Click here to download the Rehearsal Notes from September 24.
  • Print the notes and put a copy in your folder.
  • Mark your music with the notes which pertain to you.
  • Be ready to integrate these ideas at the next rehearsal.

Whenever possible, I try to use an alternate-week rehearsal plan, rehearsing half of the program every other week. With the exception of the Cross, we won’t be rehearsing the pieces from September 24 again until October 15. However, you’ll notice that I am rehearsing the Cross again this coming Monday, October 8, so please do be sure to transfer those notes as soon as possible so you’re ready for Monday.

Thank you for your understanding last week. Come well-prepared and ready for an invigorating rehearsal this Monday!

Rehearsal tonight CANCELLED

Short story: Rehearsal tonight is cancelled. Please help spread the word. If you are aware of section members who read email irregularly, or travel a long distance to rehearsal, please help by calling them to alert them.

Long story: In August, Karina at TMH alerted us of several conflicts for the season. They included fire regulation issues with all September rehearsals (which were resolved eventually), and the conflict with the October 31 dress rehearsal. We focused our energies on the ‘main event,’ the conflict with the dress rehearsal, and resolved it with the change to November 3. However — as we have discovered today — that email also cited a performance on October 1 at TMH, and therefore a conflict with our WSW rehearsal. Focusing our energies on the dress rehearsal conflict, we completely missed this. Karina emailed Marge, Rachel, and I moments ago to remind us.

I humbly apologize for this inconvenience. I’m disappointed because every rehearsal is important, and any roadblock is a challenge. I will drive over to TMH at 7:00 pm to meet anyone who doesn’t get the message and explain the situation.

In the meantime, please do help by calling anyone who you feel may not get this message.

Lastly, I’ll repost the rehearsal order for next week, taking the cancellation into consideration. I also have some rehearsal notes from rehearsal #2 to share with you.

Again, I’m so sorry that we missed this important detail in the schedule. See you next week.
