YOU could star in The Wedding Singer at NVOT!

Grandparents audtiionsPlease read and pass on to family/friends who may be interested!

For the first time ever, we are recruiting adults for the cast of our 2012 All-School Musical production. This year’s show, The Wedding Singer, requires a grandmother and a grandfather, and we have decided to cast “real” grandparents, instead of students! So if you or someone you know have ever had the acting bug, or have attended our shows and thought “I could do that!” — well, here is your chance!

Read on for our press release for complete information. If you want to schedule an audition, contact me, or John Housley, director, at housley@nvnet.org. Auditions are Tuesday, December 6, at NVOT.

Also, keep a lookout for the announcement of my new personal website launch — coming soon!

You are cordially invited to be a part of NVOT’s award-winning, sold-out musical tradition. This march, NVOT proudly presents it’s 49th All-School Musical Production, The Wedding Singer. The joyous, Tony-nominated musical is based on the hit Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore movie about a wedding singer who falls for an engaged waitress in 1985 New Jersey!
NVOT will be holding auditions for two senior citizens to play the roles of The Wedding Singer’s Grandparents. Both of these supporting roles will highlight the performer’s singing, dancing and comedic talents. Candidates interested in auditioning for ROSIE, the wedding singer’s grandmother, should prepare 32 measures of any song and will be asked to perform a scene from the show. Candidates for ARNOLD, Rosie’s husband of 50 years, should prepare 32 measures of any song and will be asked to perform a scene as Ronald Reagan.
AUDITIONS will be held on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2011. Performances will be held on March 4, 5, 6, 2012.
For more information and to reserve an audition time, visit http://www.nvotmusical.org/or email the show’s director, John Housley at Housley@nvnet.org.

Moving forward

I’ve posted the new rehearsal plan for November 21. Please check the rehearsal order so you can be prepared for a great rehearsal!

We will be sure to play through all of the Grainger Children’s March this week, and also the Copland Lincoln Portrait, which we simply did not have time for last week.

The Copland is a big piece, well-known, and iconic. All those create a special challenge, as you already know. I’m especially excited about having Robert Sherman join us as narrator. He was very impressed with your performance at the March concert for Yonkers Public Schools at Sarah Lawrence last year. I know he is very excited about this opportunity.

Lastly, thank you for all the good wishes during my recuperation. I think I am finally feeling like myself again, and am eager to see you on Monday!

Winter cycle begins 11/14

Our next cycle of rehearsals begins tomorrow evening, Monday, November 14. This rehearsal begins at 8:00 pm (because of a children’s theater booking in TMH prior to our arrival). Please arrive by 7:30 pm so we can set up quickly and start rehearsing as soon as they have cleared the area.

IMPORTANT: Although Nancy will have new music to hand out, there is one piece (a rental) which just arrived from the composer in PDF format. I am asking that everyone download, print, and bring their own part to help us with the huge task of printing and duplicating this music. To do this:

  • Click here for the download page I’ve created.
  • Enter the password which Claudia will send in a separate email to gain access to the page. I have password-encrypted the page in order to protect it through this distribution. Once I know that everyone has their part, I will eliminate this download page. I have tested the password and also tested every download link.
  • Click on your part name, download, and print. I also encourage you to tape multiple pages together to avoid loss.

Also note that the rehearsal plan is posted.

Thanks — see you Monday!

Cichowicz Flow Study #1

A number of you have asked about this Flow Study for your own band students. I’ve downloaded the set of parts and score from the Band Directors Group repository, and created a zip file. Download it here, then unzip it to extract the parts and score. I am excited about trying it out with my NVOT Wind Symphony. If you use it and like it, please comment to share your experience. I also intend to give it a try at a future WSW rehearsal.

See you Sunday at 1:00 pm for our sound check and first concert of the 24th season!
