Two concerts featuring members this week

We had another great rehearsal last Monday! Try to keep in mind the things that made the rehearsal go so well, and let’s continue to engage those ideas this week. I’ve talked to Steve Cohen about the progress of the Daugherty, and he is genuinely enthused by this opportunity. The rehearsal plan for this coming Monday, October 9, is posted.

We have two member-produced performances coming up this week. Both programs are magnificent additions to our educational and community outreach objectives. If you are available, please try to attend one or both!

  • On Tuesday, October 10, at 11:00 am — As part of the community outreach of the Westchester Symphonic Winds, members of the group will be featured at the first meeting of the  Hudson Valley Music Club for their opening concert of the 2017-18 series. The concert is at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, October 10, at 54 Clinton Avenue (Dobbs Ferry Woman’s Club) in Dobbs Ferry, directly across the street from The Masters School.  It is free and open to the public. Geoff Katin and Dan Salvi will perform Sonata for Two Clarinets by Francis Poulenc; Ruth Garcia, oboe, and Judith Soffer, piano, will present Three Romances for Piano and Oboe; and David Church on alto saxophone and Tom Sweezey on tenor saxophone will play a Bach Two Part Invention and Two Sonatinas by Beethoven. If you are free Tuesday morning it would be great to have colleagues there to cheer them on.
  • On Sunday, October 15, at 2:30 pm — It is with great pleasure that Gina & Stan Serafin invite you to their upcoming chamber music concert with their new group, The Art Ensemble of Westchester. The concert will include the debut of Gina’s nephew, Kenny singing “O mio dolce ardor” from the opera Paris & Helen with his aunt!  Stan’s brass quintet, Gina’s wind quintet, and a string ensemble are also on the program. In addition to Gina and Stan, several full-time and substitute players from WSW are performing, including Holly Rivlin, Chris Carbone, Barton Green, Tim Takagi, Mislav Forrester, Michael Lucke, Deb Dashnaw, Ian Vlahović.  which will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Route 9 in Ossining. A post-concert reception will follow in the church parish hall. We hope you can join us on Sunday, October 15 at 2:30 pm!

I heard the first audition of this year’s All-Member Audition Project (AMAP) this past Monday night, at The Oath. David was in peak form! We’ll have a hard copy sign up list for the rest of the month at rehearsal on Monday night, and I’ll create some kind of ongoing schedule to post online as well. As you recognize an opportunity to come 30 minutes early or stay 30 minutes after rehearsal, please sign up.

Enjoy the long weekend. See you Monday (at the end of the long weekend!).
